Randall Organic Rice, near Leeton
Long before the current trend, the Randall family’s concern about the usage of chemicals in rice growing saw them on the path to organic certification. Fast forward 25 years and head chef of the iconic Bondi restaurant Icebergs features their award-winning, Riverina grown, organic Koshihikari rice.
The Randalls; Peter, Jennifer, and son Tim, believe rice should be organic, nutritious and environmentally responsible, not to mention delicious. Their journey has involved extensive planting of trees, and sharing water resources with native fauna. The use of a Japanese developed probiotic to aid the healthy soil biology has led to a healthier more flavoursome rice.
Since 2011, Randall Organic Rice has milled its rice for a better taste and packaged on-farm for optimum freshness, while demand for their delicious organic brown rice cakes saw the purchase of extra rice cake machines. The rice cakes are made from freshly milled organic brown rice and a dash of water, making them perfect for coeliacs and people on FODmap and gluten-free diets.
Rice products include the award-winning Koshihikari, Langi, low GI Doongara, and Jasmine as well as rice flour. Look out for them at farmers markets, health food stores and online.
