Lillypilly Estate Wines, Leeton
Lillypilly Estate Wines, like the colourful tree it’s named after, is part of the Riverina’s very fabric. A craft winery producing 15,000 cases each year, Lillipilly grows, harvests, ferments and bottles every drop within its Leeton property boundaries. But you’ll find their wine all over the world, including anywhere you may be heading on Qantas First Class.
Run by the ever-hospitable Robert Fiumara, Lillypilly is and has always been a family production involving all seven brothers over the years – a feat they’ve commemorated with their award-winning fortified wine, Fiumara 7. The medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon they produce is also a nod to their heritage, made from the same vines planted by Fiumara patriarch, Pasquale, over forty years ago.
Cool nights and the fog and dew that accompany a late harvest are ideal conditions for growing botrytis fungus, the key ingredient in Lillypilly’s highly acclaimed Noble Blend – also an award-winner, picking up Best Sweet White Table Wine of Show at this year’s Cowra Wine Show. But controlling the weather is not an exact science and the onset of botrytis can’t be guaranteed every year which makes each bottle that much more special.
